CPA Pillars
The Community Protection Approach is a scientific approach. It provides a participatory multi-level and mixed method research design, which builds from a protection theory framework and provides a people-centered system of analysis, integrated programming and monitoring of the causal factors of a population’s needs and problems.
Its multi-layer structure and outputs are effective for understanding and addressing the coercive environment that a given population is facing. Still, it may be perceived as too complex and unclear at first glance.
For this reason, we developed 5 pillars to present and navigate the CPA. The first pillar introduces the approach, while the 4 others represent the main pillars of the methodology: Community & localization, collect evidence, capture complexity and multi-stakeholders approach.

Community and Localization
The community is at the centre of all our interventions in a given context, and through the different components of the CPA, we constantly engage with all the members of the community and foster community engagement and empowerment. Moreover, in its design, the CPA favours localization and inclusion of local NGOs, CBOs and civil society organizations.

Collect Evidence
Well-represented data and results cannot be ignored, specifically if it is people-centered. The CPA provides us with a unique set of information that combines quantitative and qualitative data on different sectors, providing an added value for designing and implementing activities, both in response and advocacy.

Capture Complexity
The CPA is a multifaceted method that captures the complexity of reality and provides the actors involved with simple outcomes that are needed to act over the specific context. Adapting to a context means to understand the underlying dynamics and thus preventing harm.
